Greet visitors automatically

Show a message to website visitors after some time, on certain pages, or when they scroll.

A greeting is a message the web messenger shows on its own, before the visitor writes. For example, “Questions about pricing? We’re here” on your pricing page.

Before you start

Every planNeeds: Proactive greetings: Write
  1. Go to SettingsCommunicationProactive Greetings.

  2. Click Create Greeting.

  3. Type a Name that only your team sees, such as “Pricing page welcome”.

  4. Choose a Trigger Type:

    • Time on Page: after the visitor has been on your site for the number of seconds you set, from 1 to 3600.
    • Page URL: when the visitor opens a matching page. Type the part of the address after your domain, such as /pricing. Use * as a wildcard: /blog* matches every page that starts with /blog, and *billing* matches any address containing “billing”.
    • Scroll Depth: when the visitor scrolls down that far, from 1 to 100%. Pages too short to scroll never trigger it.
    • Return Visit: a few seconds after the page loads, on any visit. It also shows to first-time visitors.
  5. Type the Greeting Message, up to 1000 characters. The preview shows how it looks.

  6. Click Create.

You should see the greeting in the list, marked Active.

If the chat window is closed, the greeting pops up above the chat button. Clicking it opens the chat. If the chat window is open, the greeting appears as a message.

Each greeting shows at most once per visit, and never to a visitor who already has a conversation going. Your greetings appear on every website where your web messenger is installed.

Use the buttons on the greeting’s row:

  • Edit changes it.
  • Deactivate stops it from showing, and Activate turns it back on.
  • Delete removes it for good.
