Use backup codes

Sign in when you can't get a code, and make a fresh set when you run low.

Backup codes let you sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app, email or phone. You get 10 when you first turn on two-step verification. Each one works once.

  1. Sign in with your password as usual.
  2. On the code screen, click Use a backup code instead.
  3. Type one of your codes and click Verify backup code.

Cross that code off your list. It won’t work again.

When few codes are left, the Security page shows Running low.

  1. Open your name at the top right and choose Security & 2FA.
  2. Next to Backup codes, click Regenerate.
  3. Click Generate new codes.
  4. Copy or download the new codes, then click I’ve saved my codes.

Your old codes stop working as soon as you make a new set.
